چکیده

Éva Hideg and Sándor Demeter Institute of Plant Physiology, Biological Research Center, Szeged, P.O. Box 521. Hungary, H-6701 Z. Naturforsch. 43c , 596-600 (1988); received May 2, 1988 Photosynthesis, Photosystem I I , Thermoluminescence, Delayed Luminescence The thermoluminescence and delayed luminescence characteristics of PS I I „ and PS I I p centers were investigated in B B Y particles and stroma thylakoids, respectively. The B B Y particles exhibited a thermoluminescence band at 25 °C (B band) which was associated wi th the charge recombination of the S 2 Q b " redox couple and underwent period-2 oscillation in a sequence of flashes. In the flash-induced decay of delayed luminescence of B B Y particles a component with a half-t ime of 34 s corresponded to the B thermoluminescence band and was also assigned to S2OB charge recombination. No corresponding thermoluminescence or delayed luminescence components associated with the secondary acceptor OB could be observed in the glow curve or delayed luminescence decay of stroma thylakoids. These observations indicate that unlike PS I I a the PS Hp centers are not associated with the two-electron gate, 0 B .

Photoinhibition of Electron Transport Activity of Photosystem II in Isolated Thylakoids Studied by Thermoluminescence and Delayed Luminescence

The effect of photoinhib i t ion on the pr imary ( O a ) and secondary ( O b ) quinone acceptors of photosystem I I was investigated in isolated spinach thylakoids by the methods of thermoluminescence and delayed luminescence. The amplitudes of the Q (at about 2 °C) and B (at about 30 °C) thermoluminescence bands which are associated w i th the recombination of the S ;OA and S2QB charge pairs, ...

Chlorophyll thermoluminescence of leaf discs: simple instruments and progress in signal interpretation open the way to new ecophysiological indicators.

Luminescence from photosynthetic material observed in darkness following illumination is a delayed fluorescence produced by a recombination of charge pairs stored in photosystem II, i.e. the back-reaction of photosynthetic charge separation. Thermoluminescence (TL) is a technique consisting of a rapid cooling followed by the progressive warming of a preilluminated sample to reveal the different...

Modulation of Millisecond Chlorophyll Luminescence by Non-Photochemical Fluorescence Quenching

By combining a high frequency modulation system for measurement of fluorescence with a phosphoroscope type apparatus for measurement of luminescence, recordings of fluorescence and luminescence induction kinetics under identical conditions were obtained. Both measuring sys tems tolerated the application of saturating pulses of white light for rapid, transient elimination of photochemical quenc...

Luminescence from Photosystem I at High Temperatures

Fluorescence, Delayed Fluorescence, Photosystem I The changes in the fluorescence and delayed fluorescence intensity of spinach leaf as affected by temperature were studied. It was observed that the delayed fluorescence showed a maximum at about 45 °C whereas the fluorescence maximum was at about 55 °C. An examination of the emission spectra of delayed fluorescence at different temperatures sho...

Enhanced oxygen yields caused by double turnovers of rhotosystem II induced by dichlorobenzoquinone

The activity of Photosystelil II reaction centers increases in the presence of dichlorobenzoquinone (DCBQ) compared to ferricyanide or dimethylbenzoquinone (DMBQ). We demonstrate that enhanced yields from Photosystem II in the presence of DCBQ depend on flash length (temporal distribution). A broad flash with extended decay enhances oxygen yields while a narrow flash without extended decay (300...
